Tomorrow is the start of a new year and with this in mind, I am challenging not only myself but anyone reading this to take four steps to prepare for life in the new year.

First, acknowledge what you achieved this year. Pat yourself on the back for making it through 2016! Celebrate your best memories and appreciate those who helped you not only make those memories but develop as an individual throughout the year.

Second, take time to reflect on your mistakes. Draw out the lessons in each experience and take note of them. This will help you avoid these same problems in 2017. Express gratitude for overcoming those difficulties and remember that like the problems you encountered this year, the inevitable adversity of next year will also have an eventual end.

Third, set goals for today. Not tomorrow, today. Start early. Quit waiting already. Having trouble setting goals or thinking of some? Ask yourself what you need to be happy and healthy, then devote energy into these tasks.

Last but not least, in order to move forward we must let go. Ask yourself what you truly want in your daily life. Ask yourself whom you truly want in your daily life. With the previous three steps in mind, you should be able to identify at least a few modifications that need to be made.

Each year we learn a little more about ourselves. If you want to make 2016 worth your while, take these four steps and all you need to complete them with you. Leave everything else behind.

Optimize your life and you will become optimistic.
